Remember the old excuse “My dog ate my homework”? If you were a teacher you would hear that excuse plus others every time you gave out homework. If you sent the homework by computer (through email), there would be no more bad excuses. Printing and photocopying all of that homework for 30+ people can take a long time. With E-mail you can select who you want to send it to, send it, and then it is up to the students to actually do their homework.

A lot of teenagers have Laptops, Iphones and Cell Phones; it would save a lot of trees if students got there homework over E-mail/the internet. Three to six billion trees are cut down each year around the world and most of those trees contribute to making paper. Think of how many trees could be saved if homework and paperwork were sent through the internet. There are over 250 million people on Face Book and a large amount of that will be School students. Every single one of those people has an email address and as computer technology gets more compact and portable, the internet and E-mail will become more accessible.

Ipad
The Ipad revolutionized portability and internet access. It is as thin as paper, touch screen and light weight. Most of the applications on the Ipad are for learning - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT4EbM7dCMs – This is an amazing video that shows that anybody can learn how to use new technology like the Ipad.

People/students can benefit from technology like the Ipad. It makes learning more fun and understandable for young learners (if they don’t break it first).

Computers are much more advanced than paper. In the past paper was used for designing cars, buildings and even cartoons. Most of these modern creations are designed on computer first then they are transferred from their digital design to their physical design. Not much paper is used in this process anymore.

Stephen Hawking is a world famous scientist. He has done hundreds of scientific lectures in front of T.V. cameras and also in front of other famous scientists, but without computer technology, Stephen Hawking would still be writing every single word down on paper to communicate with people. He started developing symptoms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in his twenties. It is a type of disease which would stop almost all muscular control. This is why he is unable to talk, but now he has a machine to do it for him.

The computer built onto Hawking’s electric wheel chair helps him communicate by using a specially designed program called a Speech Synthesizer. He can speak words he has written or he can make a sentence and store it on his hard drive. This can be developed further to be smaller and cheaper for people with difficulty speaking or who can’t speak at all. This link will tell you how Stephen Hawking got his Speech Synthesizer and how it has helped him through most of his life - http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_does_Stephen_Hawking_talk

The Internet also plays a big part in sharing information that can help create modern ideas. Google has everything that has ever been posted onto the internet in their data base. Worldwide, more than 2 billion searches are made on Google each day.

The internet first came about in the 1950’s and was used by the US military for communication and as a way of sending data from one base to another. They did this by using what we now call E-mail.

Computer technology could very easily replace paper. Many prototypes for a replacement have already been invented. Replacing paper with technology would also be good for the environment because it would reduce the amount of trees being cut down and it would also reduce Carbon emissions. People like Stephen Hawking would still be writing every word down onto paper if it weren’t for technology to help him speak.
